Kick off the summer with the breeding birds of Illinois Beach State Park (IBSP), one of Illinois’ most diverse habitats. We’ll meander through woodlands, wetlands, dunes, and lakeshore habitats in search of birds that are spending their summer in Illinois. Our target bird will be Brewer’s Blackbird, but we’ll be on the lookout for a host of other species normally found in the area.

Accessibility:

  • Trip will include walking on uneven trail surfaces, possible wet floodplain trails, and sandy dunes and beach.
  • Public outhouse bathrooms are available at the parking lot.

Weather/Attire/Other:

  • Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. If trails are too muddy or wet, we will turn around and go a different way.
  • Please bring your own water and insect protection of your choice.
  • Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring rain gear, a hat, and sunscreen.
  • Loan binoculars will be available.
