Third Annual ILYB Symposium

$20In conjunction with Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods and the Lake County Forest Preserves, Illinois Young Birders is excited to announce our third annual Young Birder Symposium on Saturday, October 6th. Join us for a day of birding, presentations by young birders and professionals, and art at the Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods, Illinois.

About keynote speaker, Jennie Duberstein
Jennie Duberstein is a wildlife biologist and conservation social scientist who has spent her professional career working to build partnerships for bird and habitat conservation across the United States and northwest Mexico. She currently coordinates the Sonoran Joint Venture, a binational partnership that works to conserve the unique birds and habitats of the southwestern United States and northwest Mexico. Jennie has directed environmental education programs, developed community-based conser vation projects in the U.S.-Mexico border region, developed and taught courses and workshops on bird identification, ecotourism, and bird monitoring, and has studied species including Double-crested Cormorant and wading birds in Sonora and Yellow-billed Cuckoos in Arizona. She has worked with young birders for more than twenty years, directing summer camps, leading field courses, coordinating conferences, and generally helping to connect young birders with opportunities and each other, including directing the ABA’s Camp Colorado, managing the ABA Young Birders Facebook page and The Eyrie (the ABA’s young birder blog), and co-leading VENT’s Camp Chiricahua. Jennie received her B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Virginia Tech and her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona’s School of Natural Resources and the Environment.

The ILYB Symposium is designed to celebrate the skills of young people. To that end, we would love for everyone to participate. If you would like to exhibit artwork, please complete the following form. We will review your submission and selections will be chosen prior to the event.
